Laptop does not wake from sleep (Arch Linux + KDE, NVIDIA)

Hi everyone,

I’m using Arch Linux + KDE Plasma on two different laptops, both with NVIDIA GPUs (not sure if this is relevant).

The problem occurs when I press Sleep:

The laptop becomes very loud (fans spin up) and the screen goes black.

After about 30 seconds it appears to enter sleep, although it feels more like a shutdown.

When I press the power button, Limine starts loading, but after that the screen stays black.

The laptop remains powered on with very loud fans.

I waited 4–5 minutes, but nothing changes.

The only solution is to force power off using the power button, after which the system boots normally.

Interestingly:

If I close and reopen the laptop lid, everything works correctly.

The issue only happens when using the Sleep option from the system menu.

I first suspected a hardware issue, but the exact same behavior happens on my second laptop.

Another issue:

When closing the laptop lid, the fans spin loudly and the system does not enter Suspend.

After downgrading to:

kwin 6.6.0

powerdevil 6.6.0

kwayland 6.6.0

Closing the lid works normally again (the laptop suspends correctly), but the Sleep problem remains.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what might be causing this?

Sounds like you're hibernating (S4) instead of sleeping (S2idle/S3)?

The journal of the boot might explain what happened, "sudo journalctl -b -δ" allows you to access journals of previous boots by increasing δ (1 would be the previous boot, 0 the current one)

The tail is too short to really tell what maybe lead to this and part of it would not be logged but either you're clicking the wrong button or the button does the wrong thing or maybe this is maybe a translation issue?
