Issue when clicking on any web browser on a link with .ts file

Hi

When any of my browsers  have a link to a .ts file. The file is downloaded instead of being played when selecting it. I would have liked mpv (vlc cannot play .ts file) to play these files when a .ts link is selected.

I think it is an issue with MIME. To make thinks complicated I am using gnome with wayland. Any Ideas how to resolve it without creating an extension.

Re: Issue when clicking on any web browser on a link with .ts file

Link handling is completely browser internal, this has nothing to do w/ mime, display server or DE.

FF allows you to add mime handling instead of unconditionally downloading unknown file types and you can manually edit the handler definition, https://r9e-web.stat.ubc.ca/faqs/how-do … -file-type
Vivaldi will optionally present you w/ a dialog whether and where you want to save the link and you can also use open (which afaict invokes xdg-open) - not sure about other chromium/electron browsers.

This used to work much better before browsers became nested operating systems…
