[Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

ICQ has been dead for 2 years now due to VK Media Group (aka. Mail.Ru Group), subsidiary of Gazprom Media, killing it in favor of VK messenger, which is being actively killed in favor of the MAX messenger (a.k.a TamTam)
The ICQ field should be repurposed for custom ICQ servers such as Kicq and others
or you know, just keep it for the lulz and dont let people edit them smile

Re: [Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

TBH I'd just disable the whole "Messaging" profile section, but it's not configurable via the admin menu, and the FluxBB project is dead upstream so it's unlikely to ever get fixed.

Re: [Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

as for FluxBB dead - unless the team wants to move to an entire different model - are there other similar BB which maybe can be migrated to?

Re: [Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

I guess
https://www.phpbb.com/

Edit:
https://mybb.com/, also good...
but https://docs.flarum.org/ is considered the FluxBB successor?

also, migrating would be a "painful" job, isn't it? sad

Re: [Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

So Discourse was the chosen direction?
fair enough, the infra team ultimately decides those things, personally I feel the UI is a bit heavy compared to FluxBB sad, but if a migration ever happens at least I’ll/we'll finally get a dark theme to use! tongue

Discourse was the chosen direction

finally get a dark theme to use

There're dark themes configurable in your profile and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=279719 has a dark variant.

Re: [Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

yes, there are, but it is not "black"/"dark" as the arch wiki(which is very very beautiful dark theme), also it seems I'm konfusing with the extension settings, it only applies to index page, but not sub-boards, will open a new thread or start in that thread, if this continues, once again sorry hijacking.

NOOOO not discourse.
I have registered on three discourse forums (KDE, NixOS and Obsidian) and they are way too bloated. Why does a forum need a personal messaging system and a bot welcoming you? Wouldn't just a pop up be enough for that?
But I do agree that FluxBB is getting dated. Imagine not being able to delete your forum account but have it locked and personal information removed, by forum moderators. But please NOT discourse. (unless you can disable all that bloat)
I just use an extension for dark theme and it looks perfectly fine.

I know this will lead to flame. So let's just stop here.

That is nothing to do with FluxBB, but is an Arch forum policy.  As a technical forum, it is important to prevent the deletion of accumulated knowledge associated with peoples posts.

Ahh, that makes sense now.

So, is discourse final? Or the Arch team is still discussing options?

Re: [Suggestion] Deprecate the Personal:ICQ field

from i get discourse seems a hosted platform - so moving to it would introduce a 3rd party: the arch linux project and its members, the users - and discourse as tge platform
i actively dislike that - not because hosting your own forum and keep it secure is hard - but because it means rely on a third party and trust them to keep everthing secure
in case of a data breach who would be responsible? as a user of the new arch forum discourse support would likely redirect me to the firum staff - but they in turn have nothin to deal with when the platform itself has an issue
also: wasn't there something like an arch sso planed? it wiuld greatly increase the complexity to integrate arch sso with another platform - or would require integrate all other parts into discourse
nah - that's not a way i would support

No, you can self host it.
https://github.com/discourse/discourse

README wrote:

You can self-host Discourse on your own infrastructure. But if you'd rather skip the setup, maintenance, and server management, we offer official Discourse hosting.

I think this is a good time to close this post, since it has been already solved and we are going off topic.
