Since I bought my RX9070XT last year, I have been from a few to frequent black screens ; from what I could see it seems to be amdgpu-related, and dependant on the amgpu-firmware package version.
I had thought that it would be stopping at some point, so I finally judge it was worthy of a post here.
It always happen when using a browser (I am not sure if it could be linked to video hardware acceleration, I did not narrow it down to that) but almost never in-game.
The last `dmesg` but it's always the same issue:
sudo journalctl --dmesg -b -1
Mar 17 10:20:56 desktop kernel: amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: [drm] *ERROR* [CRTC:416:crtc-0] flip_done timed outPackage versions:
local/linux-firmware 20260309-1
Firmware files for Linux - Default set
local/linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260309-1
Firmware files for Linux - Firmware for AMD Radeon GPUs
local/linux 6.19.8.arch1-1
The Linux kernel and modulesI've reverted a lot to `linux-firmware-amdgpu-20251125-1-any` those past months with which I had less frequent screen freezes/black screens.
I do not know what I can do at this point. Could it be just a plain hardware defect? If yes, how to approach this for an RMA?
Let me know if I forgot any relevant information. Sorry if my post goes in every direction, I am writing this while being late.
Edit:
Not using VRR.
Display set at 2560x1440p@144Hz (native monitor resolution and max refresh rate).
Another screen freeze today:
Mar 17 15:02:12 desktop kernel: amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: [drm] *ERROR* [CRTC:416:crtc-0] flip_done timed out

Is this https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Variable_refresh_rate ?
What framerate/modeline are you running and does a lower refresh rate/resolution also show this behavior?

I thought this section was specific to Vega GPUs?
VRR is not enabled.

144Hz (max of my monitor).
I do not know what a modeline is (do you mean modeset?).
I need to try other settings to answer than question.

Just as a general reference to "power level related signal issues"

Certainly try the 60Hz behavior.

It's been a while since I last modified a xorg.conf file! And I never knew that term.
But I never had to tweak anything since I've been using Wayland (which has been a while now) ; so I am not sure if you implied something only in case I was using X11?
Certainly try the 60Hz behavior.
Trying that since your previous message.
