20 Mbps down and up cap on Intel AX210

To preface this post, yes I have read this post but I do not have the same configuration in:

/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

For reference since I believe the issue is the width, output of

 iw dev wlan0 info
Interface wlan0
        ifindex 4
        wdev 0x1
        addr --:--:--:--:--:--
        ssid -----------
        type managed
        wiphy 0
        channel 44 (5220 MHz), width: 20 MHz (no HT), center1: 5220 MHz
        txpower 22.00 dBm
        multicast TXQ:
                qsz-byt qsz-pkt flows drops marks overlmt hashcol tx-bytes tx-packets
                0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Things I have tried:

  • Fresh Install

  • Easy install versions of Arch (CachyOS & Omarchy)

  • Checking NetworkManager for conflicts (Did not see any conflicts with dhcpcd for example)

  • Locking connection to specific BSSID using nmcli and KDE Network GUI

  • Disabling MAC Address Randomization for NetworkManager

  • Disabling NetworkManager’s WiFi power save

  • Changing NetworkManager’s backend from wpa_supplicant to iwd

  • Downgrading linux-firmware-intel to 20251021-1

  • Disabling wifi.powersave in the NetworkManager conf

It's possible I could've done any of these steps wrong since I am new to Arch, so take this list with a grain of salt.

Additional Info:

  • DE: KDE Plasma - (Network panel intermittently shows loading symbol on Enable Wifi icon next to slider in top left and Up and Down speeds go to 0) (Tested on GNOME and Hyprland as well)

  • Network Controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6E(802.11ax) AX210/AX1675* 2x2 [Typhoon Peak] [8086:2725] (rev 1a)
    Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210 160MHz [8086:0024]

  • Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi

  • ISP: Xfinity

  • Gateway: XB7 with dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz (Tried with separate band names and under the same band name.)

  • I dual boot with Windows 11 on a separate slower drive and I do not have this issue on Windows (Yes, I have disabled Windows fast start)

  • I tried turning off TPM but turned it back on, and I currently have Secure Boot turned off in my BIOS

  • I am using Limine boot loader

Re: 20 Mbps down and up cap on Intel AX210

I have the same card in a pc running 6.18.9 kernel with the lar disable patch. I was able to do 33MB/s on a relatively empty 5ghz channel 40mhz width.  That's roughly the limit of my lan with something like 10 clients attached.  Updated it right now but didn't install the lar disable patch for now. Run the test again and it maxed out at 9.9MB/s so my guess is a regression in the newest version of iwlwifi. Downgrading to linux 6.18.9 could work as a temporary solution

Run the test again out of curiosity and it maxed out at 15 MB/s so it's probably not a hard limit. Network wise nothing changed here.
