I'm on a different monitor than usual and have started experiencing freezes, general lag and visual artifacts which was not previously an issue on my usual monitor. Usually I'm on an ultrawide with 100Hz refresh rate and gsync via display port. Now I'm on an older monitor with no gsync, 60Hz and HDMI only. PC works completely fine on the 100Hz one. I'm on Linux 6.19.10-arch1-1, KDE Plasma 6.6.3 on Wayland, nvidia-open 595.58.03-2 and an RTX 5070 Ti. The lag and freezing usually happens when I open or snap a window. Sometimes it'll hang for a bit and then KWin will display that "Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset" while various windows flicker for a second then stabilize. Also spotted some "A graphics reset attributable to the current GL context occurred." as well as many "kwin_wayland[1198]: Pageflip timed out! This is a bug in the nvidia-drm kernel driver" messages through journalctl which seem to sometimes line up with the freezing/lagging.
Already tried various things like using the X11 session instead of Wayland, using a different DE, early loading or not early loading the nvidia modules, using nvidia-open-dkms with the linux-zen kernel, using nvidia-open-lts with linux-lts and double checking and trying different settings with kscreen-doctor all of which seemed to not have any particular effect.
The only thing that "helped" was downgrading all of linux, linux-headers, nvidia-open, nvidia-utils and lib32-nvidia-utils to older versions, then rebooting, then upgrading back to the current versions, which for some reason gives me a smooth desktop but several applications that will not launch (steam most noticeably), but as soon as I reboot everything's back to being laggy and freezing as usual.
No clue what to do about this, I assume it's some kind of driver issue?

Adding some logs from after a freeze, I suppose maybe I should also do what the messages say and report this? Still quite weirded out by the fact that downgrading my drivers seems to kind of temporarily improve the situation.

Hey, yeah I guess so. I also tried hyprland yesterday and it still gave me the same issues but seemingly less severe and for some reason games worked fine after the initial stutter of opening the window, so I guess that's an improvement for me.

Turns out this was not a driver issue or related to a particular monitor at all. My PCIe riser cable just gave up on me after travel. Plugging the GPU directly into the motherboard fixed it.
EDIT: Correction, the actual reason was even more annoyingly simple. My CMOS doesn't seem to be working well, so it reset, which defaulted my BIOS, which I had previously adjusted for my particular GPU + riser cable. All I had to do was in fact just restoring those settings. Pretty frustrating, but no harm done I guess.
