XFFM and FSTAB

Hi everyone ,

Wandering why in XFFM (file manager for XFCE4) the FSTAB
when selected, shows only a loading .... line and then stays like
this forever.
I thought it would be my fstab file but all my drives seems to
mount corectly.

Any ideas what it could be ???

Thanks.

Re: XFFM and FSTAB

By DM do you mean desktop manager ?
If so, nah im using GDM  for user entrance in
the system but that about it.

Im asking this because i would like to give
XFFM a chance by using it a bit.

My real FM is emelfm.

Thanks Anyway Mr.Green  smile

Re: XFFM and FSTAB

This happened to me, and I'm not sure why, since it doesn't happen on everyone's system, but I fixed it by changing the devfs names in fstab to static names, but if you do this, make sure you have the compatibility symlinks on.  It didn't help one of my friends though, so it's not really consistent.

Re: XFFM and FSTAB

Hello aCoder,

I don't understand what you mean ?
Do you mean change the mounting point or change the device name ?
And what is  :

...make sure you have the compatibility symlinks on.

Never heard of this ???

Thanks for you patience . wink

Re: XFFM and FSTAB

The device names in Arch's fstab are for devfs, and XFCE support for that is inconsistent, so it may help to take a /dev/discs/disc0/part1 and make it a /dev/hda1.  The symlinks I'm talking about are probably already turned on, but if you're interested, there's a little info on them in your /etc/devfsd.conf.

Re: XFFM and FSTAB

Marauder1, I had the same problem with xffm. I resolved the problem by making /etc/fstab world readable (from 600 to 644).

Re: XFFM and FSTAB

Thanks aCoder,

i did try the old devfs names and they did mount manually, but not
in the xffm fstab option.
Next step is to change fstab to world readable but what is the syntax?

is it  : chmod 0644 /etc/fstab ?

Thank Haplo !
