[SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

As far as I can tell this started after I did a system update, which took a bit of work to actually get to happen as it had been a while since I last opened this laptop.
I also switch from using Budgie to xfce4 for desktop environment since I did not like Budgie's interface.
After switching I could not get a graphical interface to work for login and lightDM was filling the journal with an error of some kind as well as taking 90 seconds to turn off every reboot (changed that to 10s before determining lightDM was not absolutely needed). Removing lightDM seems to have fixed this although I have to run "exec startxfce4" every time after logging in.
The laptop has a nvidia GTX970M and, afaik, intel direct rendering from the CPU, but I don't think the GPU has worked since the update. Trying different nvidia aur packages, currently have nvidia-580xx-utils/dkms/settings.
But I think these logs may help with whatever problem this is.

Trying to run "optirun glxgears -info" or "optirun glxspheres64" give this:

[ 2192.531522] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE)

[ 2192.531544] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

The Xorg.8.log:

Please use [code][/code] tags. Edit your post in this regard.

currently have nvidia-580xx-utils/dkms/settings.

No you don't, courtesy of "/etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nouveau"
Why are you trying to use bumblebee itfp? Your system perfectly supports https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME

Oh thank you for code formatting thing. I was wonder how that was done.
As to why bumblebee, it was the first one I saw that seem to be able to test multiple GPUs so I figured it would be fine. But I will try removing it.

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

Interesting. Running 'prime-run glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"' gives

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 152 (GLX)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 24 (X_GLXCreateNewContext)
  Value in failed request:  0x0
  Serial number of failed request: 67
  Current serial number in output stream: 68

'prime-run vulkaninfo' outputs the same device as regular vulkaninfo. I don't know if that is supposed to happen.

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

What does the xorg log look like? Is there still a remnant configuration file that should™ not be there?

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

Somehow though, Steam has now opened. Will continue to see where this goes. If anything can run, etc.

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

Chuzzle boots up, but then went into a crash loop once I entered windowed mode.
With I think the same error.

Unhandled exception in Xalia:

Please stop bumping - edit your previous post to mend it when nobody has replied.
Or collect the information and then post wink

[  2453.737] (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.8.log", Time: Wed Apr 29 20:05:03 2026
[  2453.738] (++) Using config file: "/etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nouveau"

That's from yesterday and still had the xorg.conf.nouveau - if you're using startx/xinit the log is in ~/.local/share/xorg (see the wiki again)

Also .8 is typically xwayland, are you https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xfce#U … nd_support ?

Done and done.
Same error as before with 'prime-run glxinfo'.
This is now what it says in the log.

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

The nvidia device is completely ignore and there doesn't seem to be a drm node for it either.

nvidia-smi
lsmod | grep nvidia
dkms status
pacman -Qs 'nvidia|kernel'

Post all outputs and when nothing there looks suspicious to you also your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -s -H "Accept: application/json, */*" --upload-file - 'https://paste.c-net.org/'

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

$ nvidia-smi
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.
$ lsmod | grep nvidia

Nothing was returned from 'lsmod'.

 $ dkms status

Nothing was returned from 'dmks status'

Yes, you probably lack the kernEl headers

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblebee xorg error, Steam also won't start.

As suspected, since the kernel has moved to 7.0.2 you need to get them from https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/ … kg.tar.zst or update the entire system and likely also the 580xx AUR packages (which need a patch for the 7.0 kernels)

Edit: then in doubt see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dynami … ld_modules
