I've been struggling with Wine and this is embarrassing.
Wine can't paint Virtual Desktop properly on native Wayland.
The background either fully transparent or white, depends on compositor.
To reproduce:
rm -rf .wine; DISPLAY= wine explorer /desktop=shell,1920x1080
Another one is Wine closes its desktop after a while when closing bundled cmd application.
Any efforts toward addressing this are appreciated.

I had not used that Virtual Desktop feature before, but I just tried that (natively) with wine-11.9 and labwc. Result is a floating white taskbar with Start menu. Dialogs float and everything seems to work well, although the various Control Panel dialogs, when closed, crash wine (both in Wayland and XWayland), which seems a bit like your second issue.
