makepkg says that the local directory is not a clone of itself

i was trying to build linux using shallow clone because developers dont implement it, putting local directory (according to archwiki tip "${pkgname}::git+file:///path/to/repository") as the source but it keeps saying that the directory is not a clone of directory specified in source=()

Please post the exact PKGBUILD, command used and output generated. Also how did you create the shallow clone?
