I have an animated gif of tux the penguin and I want to set it as my user avatar in KDE plasma. I can't find a single tutorial or anything on this topic. Does anybody have any idea how to? Also, quick note, KDE did take my animated gif, but only displayed the first frame, indicating that KDE thinks it is a non-animated gif.

Please don't do that: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Genera … es#Bumping
I'd say if it's not already working that way anyway it's very likely not (yet) directly possible or intentionally disabled, you'd probably have to look at the code.

This will require the use of QImageReader to check the imageCount and then conditionally create QImage/QPixmap or QMovie even when using QLabel - if not explicitly implemented this won't work and from the symptom the code will just unconditionally treat the file as QImage (and show the first frame)
You'd have to file a feature request upstream, but the cause might not justify the overhead.

So... how do I do that?

Do what? File a feature request?

Ok, I probably should send a feature request

Ok, I probably should send a feature request
Please mention in the request an option to disable animation in avatars.
Fortunately my browser has such option and I can read this thread without irritation.

I just added @dimich 's thing to the forum. Also, a developer for KDE commented so this might actually get in soon!

I went the blocker rule route:
bbs.archlinux.org##[src*="https\:\/\/bbs\.archlinux\.org\/img\/avatars\/176792\.gif\?m\=1779980438"]...until eventual/inevitable ban.

Yeah makes sense, still jumpy ![]()

Men what a nervous thing, I went for uBlock and blocked the element
These should be forbidden ![]()

Wait I just realized that everyone thinks that this is for the Arch Forums

No, we don't - the animated avatar obviously works here and people are discussing how incredibly annoying it is.

Dimich is talking about the Arch forum

No, dimich is talking about the feature request you're about to open and then references the situation in this thread to make his point.
We all understand that you're talking about KDE - it's in the subject and obviously everyone gets to experience your epilepsy-trigger here.

Exactly. @y8v, I'm talking semi-sarcastically about animated avatars in general. If I were using KDE and saw animated avatars in a login screen, I would consider it as a bug and file a request to disable it.
