i3 wm using different "style"

Hey all

I'm a i3wm user .. (next to try sway) I have a question, I m a guy who like often change i3 appearence like ... i3block style, colors ... and so one ... everything almost big_smile in order do doing that (I m a bit lazy guy) I created several users (4) LOL but it is not the best I know ... I would like to have just an user but can change fast the i3wm style ... consider that even terms colors change by the settings ... there is some way to do so ? I don't wanna spend changing file by file .. maybe create a script that allow me to choose each time and move all the config file at all on the start up ... but maybe there is some best idea !!!

what do you think ??

Re: i3 wm using different "style"

Probably centralizing the colors in xrdb, https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#xresources and change the xrdb and reload the i3 config

even terms colors change by the settings

That will heavily depend on the terminal being used by there're ANSII sequences to change (some) colors of xterm and urxvt and others might expose the theme configuration eg. via dbus

You're aware of tools like https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/python-pywal/ ?

Forgot to explain ... I mean not only about terminal but in particular related to i3blocks style-colors ... or using polybar instead basically looks other WM (not at all ... )

Re: i3 wm using different "style"

Afaict i3blocks doesn't support includes in its config so you could direct it to use some /run/user/1000/i3blocks.conf and make that a dancing symlink - just that the overall config would be mangled w/ the colors.
Same about polybar

It is not that hard and worth it if you change the themes often. All you need is a theme file and then a script which translates the theme to the apps you use. I just did this for a Quickshell bar, kitty and qutebrowser. Now I change theme and everything is done in a click. You can also reload the apps for a live preview.
As long as the app uses a theme file it is possible.
