[SOLVED]Cannot download from Internet Archive with wget and Firefox

I'm not able to download files from the Internet Archive anymore, at least with wget and likely all mozilla based browsers. For example, Turok 2 Demo (https://archive.org/compress/turok2demo) is not downloadable for me, I have been trying unsuccessfully for maybe 24 hours now.

What doesn't work:

Wget 1.25.0

Loaded CA certificate '/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt'
Resolving archive.org (archive.org)... 207.241.224.2
Connecting to archive.org (archive.org)|207.241.224.2|:443... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 302 Found
Location: https://ia600606.us.archive.org/zip_dir.php?path=/0/items/turok2demo.zip [following]
--2026-08-07 05:29:03-- https://ia600606.us.archive.org/zip_dir.php?path=/0/items/turok2demo.zip
Resolving ia600606.us.archive.org (ia600606.us.archive.org)... 207.241.227.196
Connecting to ia600606.us.archive.org (ia600606.us.archive.org)|207.241.227.196|:443... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Read error (The TLS connection was non-properly terminated.) in headers.
Retrying.

Then it times out after 10 attempts.

Floorp 12.16.4@153.0 (Firefox fork):

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to ia600606.us.archive.org.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
What can you do about it?

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

Same for LibreWolf.

Gnome Web 50.4:

Unable to display this website
The site at https://ia800606.us.archive.org seems to be unavailable.

It may be temporarily inaccessible or moved to a new address. You may wish to verify that your internet connection is working correctly.

Technical information
The precise error was: HTTP/2 Error: INTERNAL_ERROR

What works:

Downloading the same file with Brave (Google Chrome based Browser) surprisingly works so maybe the issue is not with IA itself.

What i've tried unsucessfully:

run0 pacman -Syu is up to date.

Disabling Tailscale.

According to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Transp … r_Security:

Arch Linux uses CA certificates from the Mozilla CA Certificate Store as a default set

Which might explain why it's broken in wget and all Mozilla based browsers, but not Chrome ones and led me to believe there's something messed up in ca-certificates.crt

renaming

/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt

and then re installing ca-certificates-utils does not seem to help.

Re: [SOLVED]Cannot download from Internet Archive with wget and Firefox

Trying to wget https://ia600606.us.archive.org/zip_dir … k2demo.zip behaves the same here.
curls ends on

< cache-control: max-age=0
< referrer-policy: no-referrer-when-downgrade
<
* HTTP/2 stream 1 reset by server (error 0x2 INTERNAL_ERROR)

* Connection #0 to host ia600606.us.archive.org:443 left intact
curl: (92) HTTP/2 stream 1 reset by server (error 0x2 INTERNAL_ERROR)

Faking the UA doesn't help.

Is the problem limited to the internet archive or do you experience this w/ any other domain?
Maybe some firefox extension (noscript?)

I don't remember seeing it anywhere else.

Maybe some firefox extension (noscript?)

I don't think it's an extension problem. I just installed https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.mozilla.firefox without any extensions and org.mozilla.firefox was not in ~/.var/app before starting Firefox. Still the same error.

I'm relieved the error is not on my side, but why does it work in Brave (latest version 1.93.132)?

IA seems to have a forum where at least one user reports the same problem: https://archive.org/post/2445434/couldn … work-error

Sorry, I actually forgot to remove that question after curl failed.

https://www.ssl.org and "openssl s_client ia800807.us.archive.org:443" don't show/have any problems connecting, nor does FF.
FF causes NS_ERROR_NET_INTERRUPT, possibly along https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=858394#c30

Re: [SOLVED]Cannot download from Internet Archive with wget and Firefox

Try downloading it from https://archive.org/details/turok2demo

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: [SOLVED]Cannot download from Internet Archive with wget and Firefox

The attempt is to download https://archive.org/compress/turok2demo (the "7 Files" download option) what generates the discussed URL and will fail

wget 'https://archive.org/compress/turok2demo'

Re: [SOLVED]Cannot download from Internet Archive with wget and Firefox

I marked this thread as solved, since https://archive.org/compress/turok2demo seems to work now again (at least for now) and the issue is probably not Arch related.
