init level and friends

At the moment I am starting the computer at init level 3 and starting the X server manually with startxfce4. It works fine, but I'd like to know more about init levels and startx, but just checking the /etc/initab and relative man is quite confusing.

Can someone point me to a good tutorial, please?

Re: init level and friends

Nothing much to learn about. Here's some info.

If you want xfce4 to start automatically after boot, you can change the default runlevel in inittab to 5 (id:5:initdefault:) and then set the last line to point to login manager (or perhaps startxfce4 itself).
