Re: [Solved] Problem with suspend/resume state on laptop

It is solved (for you) by (giving up? and) switching to nouveau - there's nothing else to do here unless of course you want to pursuit addressing the nvidia/simpledrm conflict.

See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 1#p2290011 and feel free to re-open the thread and post an update whenever you feel like.

Re: [Solved] Problem with suspend/resume state on laptop

I already tried blocking simpledrm but the system would not boot.

I would not care much about this problem if there was way to restore the display after failure to resume, but i have to do hard reboot by pressing the power button every time when this happens.

Re: [Solved] Problem with suspend/resume state on laptop

See the other thread, disable the grub framebuffer and also only try to boot the multi-user.target (2nd link below)
"black screen at some point" != "does not boot", some output configuration in X11 might try to use the simpledrm provided one or whatever.
You *will* have to get rid of the simpledrm device and if you check debian I assume it's not used there (for now)?

Re: [Solved] Problem with suspend/resume state on laptop

I tested this parameter systemd.unit=multi-user.target and was able to boot to tty, but still was getting failed resumes.

I also tried to block simpledrm with this parameter simpledrm=0 but it was not recognized by the kernel as parameter. This was suggested by chatgpt.

roll
You got what you asked for tongue

Did you add "systemd.unit=multi-user.target initcall_blacklist=simpledrm_platform_driver_init" or just "systemd.unit=multi-user.target"?
The latter won't help at all.
If it was /with/ blocking the simpledrm device please post the journal for that run.

If blocking the simpledrm device still gets you a black screen (on the multi-user.target) see whether you can blindly login and run startx, resp. disable the grub framebuffer (I didn't ask back what the user in the other thread did and whether injecting an edid was relevant but since they're in the same position as you they might have some tips on the matter, so feel free to ask there as well)

Re: [Solved] Problem with suspend/resume state on laptop

I added this parameter in /etc/default/grub:  initcall_blacklist=simpledrm_platform_driver_init
Also i uncommented this line: GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=console

After that i was able to reboot. Tested suspend/resume and didn't experienced failed resumes. So far it seems to be working.
