usb is not recognised after running pacman -Syu [SOLVED]

now im sure this is the 5 millionth "blah broke after update pls help" post yall have seen but im clueless

now heres whats happening
plugging in the usb nothing happens despite me setting up thunar so it shows in the file manager
and it worked up until today where the only significant thing ive done is run pacman -Syu (also installed cbonsai its absolutely peak)
now rn im on the lts version and it works fine
do note i know not of what lts stands for and
actually gimme a sec
aight it works on the long term support version i dont know what the difference is tho

i have run like one command i learnt from a friend when we were setting up thunar and arch as a whole 3 days ago (should prob mention that i got udisks2 for this cause it might matter idk but its running fine on the non lts ver)
its "dmesg | tail -n 30" and that shows this
[11734.796437] usb 4-2: Product:  SanDisk 3.2Gen1
[11734.796444] usb 4-2: Manufacturer:  USB
[11734.796450] usb 4-2: SerialNumber: 00017304082825233743
[11753.091118] usb 4-2: USB disconnect, device number 2

over and over the difference being it keeps on adding up the device number
next would be 3 then 4 etc etc
this is not the case in the lts ver there it works fine for some odd reason

so lads laddettes and the laddies in between
what do we think is the issue here
and what do i do next
for those guys
ill do rm -rf / some other day

thanks for reading
hf and take care

Re: usb is not recognised after running pacman -Syu [SOLVED]

uname -a
pacman -Qs kernel | grep 'local/linux'

Did you reboot after the update?

Re: usb is not recognised after running pacman -Syu [SOLVED]

Ftr what happend is that the update replaced all kernel modules on disk w/ the ones for the new kernel that the older one will not load.
At this point you can no longer load kernel modules and if you had not already loaded vfat, you can no longer use that filesystem (until a reboot re-aligns the running and installed kernel)

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
