wireplumber adds sources and sink,
Hello,
I hope you're doing fine
I use a Thinkpad x1 Gen 11 with a Raptor Lake integrated sound card
When I want to use external microphones (like jack plugged earphones or earbuds) for a call with my browser (librewolf), my system goes completely haywire:
it starts to create new sources and sinks
can't seem to settle on a microphone
sometimes, after a restart it can work
When I retart pipewire service, the system stabilizes and I can play sound either from the integrated speakers or the earphones.
I use Niri and Dank

Ok,I played with different configurations over the weekend (earbuds only) to try to make a workable conference call in a browser. It seems that many factors come into play that causes the instabilities I had. I succeeded with constraints and here's what I observed. By no means what's below is a rigorous testing or anything, but it's gives an overview and hopefully could helpful for some people.
Pipewire's autoswitching profile from sink to headset
the earbuds weren't either recognized by the navigor as microphone or didn't stayed as one through the whole test session. When disabled and switched manually to headset before entering the confcall (and the browser requesting access) it worked. I could switch back to sink profile after a call without issue as well.
The lc3 codec when in headset profile
Seems that it doesn't work (in my setup at least). The device deactivate as soon as the call starts. Falling back to MSBC codec seems stable and with a decent quality.
LibreWolf
It seems LibreWolf can't handle decent recognition of devices. With some apps, the device was recognized but unusable, sometimes it just didn't appear in device list. I don't know if its because of securities restrictions or if I just messed with the configuration by myself. But, it works just as expected under Firefox. (with all previous steps checked) In some webconfcallapp sometime LibreWolf wouldn't show the setup microphone or only the laptop's.
To summarize the workable setup for me, is to use Firefox with manual switching to headset profile before entering the room call and stick the MSBC codec.

Don't know if it's the same, but i noticed something very similar yesterday and some days before.
I'm on KDE/Plasma(wayland) and most times suspending my workstation. My sound device is via nvidia GPU over HDMI.
Yesterday i noticed:
- Sound muting doesn't work
- Sound doesn't play until i opened "config Sound devices"(i am on de_DE) and activated the HDMI output again(was disabled).
- Here i noticed that i have - as you - many "clones" of the same sound sources/sinks, most deactivated.
- //Edit: also heavy user-journal flooding (more than the plasma beast doing normally<g>)
- Reboot(s) doesn't help really (lesser dead sources/sinks, but they increased after a while again)

11Never had issues with sound. For me it's started with linux-zen in the new 7.2.x version.(bigger upgrade of other packages too)
Yesterday i was on 7.2.2-zen1-1-zen during "fighting" the problem.
Started another upgrade (smaller, IMHO no sound related packages) i got upgraded to:
7.2.3-zen1-2-zen
After this i don't have this issue anymore, tested some reboots and also suspending.
So: Make a try with your installed kernel so that this is get upgraded to 7.2.3 (or newer). And be sure your whole system is synced also.
Otherwise a test run with the linux-lts kernel may be a "good shot into blue", maybe better than (re/mis)-configure a lot of settings (//edit: which worked perfect before)...
