Hi all,
I'm about to buy a laptop to run Arch and want to know whether suspend/resume (s2idle) actually works on this specific model before committing. I cannot test it in a store, so I'm asking if anyone here has (or has access to) this machine.
Hardware
- Model: Lenovo ThinkBook 16p G6 ADR, machine type 21U0 (SKU 21U00014TX)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX (Zen 4, Dragon Range, 16C/32T)
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop (Blackwell) + AMD Radeon 610M iGPU (Advanced Optimus/G-SYNC)
- Wi-Fi: MediaTek MT7925 (Wi-Fi 7); Audio: Realtek ALC3287 + SOF
- Storage/RAM: 2x M.2 2280, 2x DDR5 SODIMM
What I already know / concern
- Dragon Range mobile has no S3 — only s2idle (cat /sys/power/mem_sleep → [s2idle]).
- I've seen reports on other 8940HX laptops (ASUS TUF A16, HP Omen 16) where s2idle hangs because the EC sleep path is exposed only via a Windows-specific PEP DSM; the kernel stalls at "PM: suspend entry (s2idle)" and never resumes.
- Lenovo's AMD ThinkBook family (G7+ ASP) reportedly had no known suspend fix.
- This model's BIOS has no user-visible sleep-state / Modern Standby / S3 toggle, and I found no Linux suspend reports for it yet.
My questions
1. Has anyone run Arch on this exact model? Does systemctl suspend resume correctly (keyboard, lid close/open, battery drain)?
2. If it hangs, did any of these help: acpi.prefer_microsoft_guid=1, BIOS tweaks, a specific kernel version (6.15+?), or nvidia-open + PRIME changes (nvidia-drm.modeset=1, s0ix)?
3. Any known issues with the MT7925 Wi-Fi or ALC3287 speakers (all speakers not firing)?
4. Which kernel version did you have success/failure on?
If you have the machine, output of these would be very helpful:
uname -r
cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
sudo systemctl suspend # then try to wake
sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'PM:|suspend|s2idle|gpu|nvrm'
Happy to be pointed elsewhere if this is the wrong place — just looking for real-world suspend experience before buying.
Thanks!
