Hello everyone!
Long-time reader of the wiki, but I joined the forums just now.
I installed Arch about three years ago. I hopped between many distros before, but nothing quite felt right. Once I moved to Arch, I never looked back. Now I'm running a minimal setup with the Sway WM, which stays out of my way and keeps me productive.
Hoping to learn more from these forums. Huge thanks to all the amazing people who maintain this wonderful OS. I've tried many options, but this is home.
Cheers!

Hello everyone! I installed Arch three months ago, switching from Windows 10. I’m very happy with the performance (especially in video games—it’s nice and smooth). I hope to make good use of my time here and learn a lot of new things.

I'll join in.
I've made a couple of posts so far. I started using Arch about 7 weeks ago. I'd been using Fedora prior to that and had been daily driving Linux for a couple years. While I enjoy Fedora, I do a lot of work with tech and systems, and I wanted to deep dive into a Linux system but didn't quite want to go as far as LFS. So I started looking at Arch in a VM.
I wanted to build a layered hardened endpoint system, kind of like what you might see in a corp environment. So I built it with the hardened kernel and other security/hardening utilities. Probably overkill for a personal desktop, but I wanted a project I could add to my resume.
Anyway, I really enjoy Arch and I have learned a lot since using it.

Hello everyone! I've been a long time lurker of these forums, but now I've finally decided to join.
I've been using Linux as my primary OS since late December 2022. I started originally on Ubuntu, but in May 2024 I moved to Arch. The primary reason that I decided to use Arch was because I wanted to be able to build my own system and also get to know how to do some of the nitty-gritty Linux stuff that Ubuntu normally took care of.
It has been a great learning experience so far and I hope to help and have fun.
I am glad to be here! ![]()

Hello, everyone!
I just dropped from MacOS, like 3 weeks ago, and I've been really happy about this Distro! Sure, I have some problems, like WiFi not working sometimes or bluetooth, or "accidentaly" installing ML4W... I'm here to gain experience, and (hopefully) fix all my problems.
Nice to meet yall!

Hello everyone - I’m joining your circle as a grandfather. However, I’ve been using Arch Linux and Manjaro for about ten years now. Back in the 1980s – having switched into IT from a different field – I became fascinated by UNIX and worked as a system administrator managing massive server racks connected to hundreds of terminals. Printed manuals used to take up entire shelves. But innovations came fast, and when the Internet arrived – bringing web servers, SMTP mail, Linux, and LAMP development – I was immediately hooked. Naturally, I worked with a number of Linux distributions, both professionally and privately: Debian, CentOS/Red Hat, SUSE, Mandriva, Fedora, and Ubuntu. For personal use, however, I gravitated toward the rolling-release models of Arch Linux and Manjaro. Even before writing these lines, I found myself getting involved in a user's issue here on the forum over the past two days. Here’s to a successful collaboration!

Hello all: new to Arch, but not Linux -- first installed a kernel version 1.3.x back on Mandrake (when that was a thing), and have since tried RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu, and probably a few other flavors I've forgotten about.
My main distro is Gentoo, which I've been running about 20 years or so.
Have to use Windoze on my work laptop, but noticed that Arch was an option for WSL2, so decided to give it a whirl -- and I really like it! Probably because it is so similar to Gentoo, and commands in 'emerge' are easily translated to 'pacman'.
Cheers to the Arch community!

Hello out there,
new to Arch and quite happy how the system in general performs! My last contact with Linux is almost 20 years ago, when I had Gentoo running - eventually, I became too frustrated, since every emerge --update world seemed to create more issues than it solved ;-) Of course it was my naive approach (upgrade first, worry later) which led me (or rather my system) into trouble. I haven't changed much since then, so really appreciate the general stability and options a modern system offers!
I'm still using Windows (dual boot), but the performance difference is very noticeable even on my quite up-to-date hardware. Let's see how long...
For now, I'm going to beat myself in the face a few times for messing up my nick upon registration. Stupid spacebar.
Cheers,
Wonko

Hi,
my name is Jed. I'm new here. I'm from the Philippines, I am a programmer for 20 years i've been a coder in PHP, Objective-c, JS, TS, and Python. my favorite editor is sublime text. I have downloaded the arch iso and a bootable usb, and starting to read the guide.
About me, I have been using Ubuntu for years. I need to scratch my program itch and recreationally study and write code. so I chose Arch Linux! I love computers ever since I wrote my goto print spam in basic with my commodore 64. Nice to meet you all!
Regards,
Jed

Hi all. Long time Linux user here, starting with Slackware in the early 90s, going thru more distro families than I care to count, ending up with dabbling with Arch-based and finally vanilla Arch.
I'm not a hacker, have the scripting skills of a dead skunk and still prefer gui tools where I can, but don't run screaming from a shell if needed
QEMU/KVM/VMM are man's best friend for distro testing
I'm very happy with the rolling release model, and will set up snapshots (my system is ext4, more due to habit than anything) to bombproof my newly built system.
Peace, all ![]()

Sup. I've used windows my whole life, but cuz I wanted to learn more about how computers actually work (and also other benefits of linux) i decided to swap. I've been using endeavor for like half a year, just to get familiar with the basics and then decided to hop into vanilla Arch. I rly like how much Im learning in the process, even tho it's frustrating sometimes and Ive gotta come back the next day. Ready to f-up my system and reinstall soon lol.

Hi! After trying and liking CachyOS and Omarchy, I decided I don´t want to rely on the maintainers of the derivatives (or risk too much power concentration) so came upstream. Loving the amount of control Arch provides and am learning so much. Looking forward to participate and hopefully contribute as well.

hello world,
been trying.... to use linux for about 2 years now, slowly at first, but with poor help
quit for a long while, then i came back with a different intro.
looked around and found arch, and a discord to help learn some things.
now arch is my only distro, on my main computer. i've got so much to learn, i still feel like a baby trying to walk.
i'm reading more, and handling more of the smaller situations myself, but likely asking question the man could answer more than i should.
still tho, i'm happy with what i've gotten from linux and more specifically arch this time.
thank you to all the og writers of the code, and to all the maintainers, and involved community members.
i'm happy to have arch.
very new, very interested.
gaming focused, but learning outside of that too.
always looking for new tools and enjoyments in software

I've been having a lot of fun with Arch and am so glad to finally get away from Windows.
I'm looking forward to ricing my own workspace/gaming space and learning linux and how to program along the way.
I hope to make some friends with a similar determination here. I'll be in your care everyone!

Regards to all linux users, I am an enthusiast from free and open software, I take many time to write this but I think its time to make a little but substantial contribution for this thread.
The first time that I used Arch Linux was in 2009, I was frustrated with my Gentoo that i broken, and it was Arch that put me in contact with the LSF. These distributions also changed my perspective on the world of operating systems. So since then, arch was my hate and my love. I installed and removed the Arch as many times as I could. However, in 2020, I had finally decided on my preferred system, and it was because of the Arch Wiki, a fantastic document, that I became even more devoted to Arch Linux. I admit that there were times when I chose and installed Manjaro, Endeavor, Biglinux, and even Artix, but I ultimately decided to choice to Arch Linux as my primary operating system. What to say from the AUR? I love the AUR, even though it gives me hours of anguish. I adore the AUR. The Arch Linux documentation are impressive well writed, and the community very informative. I'm writing here only to help with the greater tactic of these crazys, and one day a person who is reading or searching about the Arch will learn about this and be encouraged to use it.
