linux-firmware updates 1:20260916-1 is freezing my system with em28xx

Yesterday’s firmware package updates made my system freeze after not even ten minutes uptime, reproducible. Mouse was still movable in Plasma but no clicks registered, no keyboard, no jumping to other ttys possible.

It’s the em28xx chip, my Hauppauge TV tuner (WinTV-dualHD). When I do unplug it, I get no freeze.
See the dmesg stuff.

What now? I fear this is an upstream issue…

Please post the full kernel output from a boot with the issue as text.  Have you confirmed by downgrading linux-firmware that it is the cause of the issue?

Found out it was actually related to my USB 3 cabel. After rearranging it, no more system freezes, no suspicious kernel logs either.

New problem: After waking up from standby, the device 004 on bus 003 (the TV tuner) is timing out. This makes even proper reboots without pressing reset impossible now. Used the tool "usbreset" via systemd hook to reset the device after standby in the past but this command is now unable to reach the device either. But might be completely unrelated to the firmware-updates, or USB cable related too, I don’t know? Can I just downgrade linux-firmware or do I have to downgrade the kernel too to check (does it still boot this way?)?

linux-firmware is a meta package but you can downgrade them in isolation.
But

Did anything else change around the HW setup from when everything worked as expected?

The "TV tuner" is some DVB dongle?
Can you just rep-plug that to revive it (and allow the system to continue)?
Is it still in its original slot?
USB2 or USB3? Any external hubs involved?
