Can't figure out how to get pinyin input

Hello, I'm trying to get an input method that will allow me to type chinese characters with pinyin input, but every time I do I just get a qwerty keyboard that types roman characters. I've installed ibus-libpinyin but when I go to my keyboard settings and try to add a keyboard that supposedly types chinese or has pinyin input I just get roman characters. I feel like there's something obvious I'm missing but I can't figure it out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Secondarily if there's a way to do this so that I can have a dvorak layout that types the characters that would be preferred as I'm used to that layout but that seems more complicated and I wouldn't mind having to use qwerty for this. I'm using KDE if it matters.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/IBus#Integration

I've no practical experience w/ any of this (using only normal letters on a normal keyboard smile) but while gnome is very much tied to ibus my impression is that most users™ use https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Fcitx5 for this?

As for dvorak, that should™ be unrelated to the IM and KDE (on wayland) adhere to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg/K … _localectl unless you've also a layout configured in the session.
For the possible varaiants see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dvorak … rak_Layout
