For the last month or so, every time I try to update my computer with
pacman -Syuit claims the system is up to date. At first I thought there just wasn't anything to update. Recently I was looking at the official versions and latest release dates of some packages I have, and the version number is higher than the one I have installed. For instance, I have firefox 154.0.1, whereas the latest release is 156.0.1, from the 23d of September. Even after running
pacman -S firefox it still claims the package is up to date. The same occurs with a few other packages (I'm checking the versions on the packages section of the archlinux website).
I checked my mirrorlist, found a .pacnew file, updated it and removed it. Still, after attempting to upgrade my system, it insists it's up to date. Then I went around looking for all the pacnew files I could find, updated them and removed them. Nothing changed. I've also tried uninstalling and re-installing some packages to no avail. I suspect the issue is with the sync database, but I'm not sure.

I would look at and update your mirror list again and check they are valid and working.

Sounds like the mirror you're using has troubles and is out-of-date.
Look for the first uncommented line in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and look it up on https://archlinux.org/mirrors/status/ .
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
