Pending adoption request for orphaned package `ibgateway`

Good evening,

I would like to adopt the orphaned package `ibgateway`. The package has been flagged as out-of-date since 2025-12-04. The maintainer's (efernandes) last login was on 2025-01-07 (CET). I believe that my adoption request will never be accepted by the package maintainer, as they are no longer active.

I already have a fixed version of the PKGBUILD (https://pastebin.com/u6dA3bux). I also created another package, `ibgateway-stable`, for the stable version of the Interactive Brokers Gateway, and I have already pushed it to the AUR.

Is it possible that my adoption request for `ibgateway` was accepted without the maintainer's action?

No, not automatically. Package adoption is currently disabled due to recent malicious adoption activity. Under the current rules, an orphaned package adoption request cannot be accepted without manual intervention from AUR Mods/PMs

Re: Pending adoption request for orphaned package `ibgateway`

Hi

The adoption request was filed today, so please always give maintainers the time to evaluate them (up to 14 days).

Forum is not used by PMs and developers usually

Also I've just accepted your request right now.

Finally, please never upload duplicated packages, it's strictly prohibited and the pending adoption requests waiting for a couple.of hours is not a valid reason at all.

Now file a new deletion request for removing ibgateway-stable (twice the work for maintainers)

Could you clarify why ibgateway-stable should be deleted? Interactive Brokers Gateway offers two distinct versions: the latest release and a stable release. Allowing users to choose between them seems reasonable.

It’s common practice in the AUR for packages to have multiple variants representing different release channels. For example, Microsoft Edge is distributed in many AUR packages: microsoft-edge-beta-bin, microsoft-edge-canary-bin, microsoft-edge-dev-bin, and microsoft-edge-stable-bin.

If the concern is related to naming conventions, perhaps renaming the packages to ibgateway-latest and ibgateway-stable would be more consistent with AUR best practices?

Re: Pending adoption request for orphaned package `ibgateway`

I spent a couple of minutes to navigate the interactivebrokers website and I wasn't able to find a way where it's declared they offer two supported versions at the same time

Later, I switched to desktop mode and it revealed successfully..

The general rule is not create duplicated packages, even if the package in AUR is outdated.

This is a different case as you pointed, so you can freely keep them both, as long as the author supports both versions you can keep both.
