[0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

I've been experiencing the following error on my desktop:

Sep 20 22:17:47 archlinux kernel: x86/amd: Previous system reset reason [0x08000800]: an uncorrected error caused a data fabric sync flood event
Sep 20 22:17:47 archlinux kernel: [Hardware Error]: System Fatal error.
Sep 20 22:17:47 archlinux kernel: fbcon: Taking over console
Sep 20 22:17:47 archlinux kernel: [Hardware Error]: CPU:12 (19:21:2) MC5_STATUS[-|UE|MiscV|AddrV|PCC|TCC|SyndV|-|-|-]: 0xbea0000000000108

Sep 20 22:17:47 archlinux kernel: [Hardware Error]: cache level: RESV, tx: GEN, mem-tx: GEN

It can happen randomly, sometimes within 10 minutes of turning my computer on in the morning, sometimes after a few hours. It also happens consistently after launching Palworld (fairly graphically intense game) for a few minutes.

After this happens, regardless of whether it's random or because I attempted to play Palworld, it takes a few seconds to load kernel modules on boot and 13 seconds into that the GPU is initialized and my desktop becomes extremely laggy until I turn it off and leave it a few minutes.

Apparently "[0x08000800]: an uncorrected error caused a data fabric sync flood event" is a common bug that nobody's figured out the exact cause of, with no specific fix that works for everybody. Supposedly it's connected to a linux kernel update.

Comparing the above error to a previous example, I noticed that aside from the CPU core and the Error Addr, the errors are identical:

Sep 20 18:29:22 archlinux kernel: x86/amd: Previous system reset reason [0x08000800]: an uncorrected error caused a data fabric sync flood event

Here's my system specs:

Kernel: 7.2.6-arch2-1
DE: Plasma 6.7.5
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D (16) @ 4.552GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090

GPU Driver: nvidia-open-dkms 615.71.09-1

Here's a couple of relevant journals using systemd.log_level=debug:

https://paste.c-net.org/SolvedFiles - in this session I launched Palworld to reproduce the crash. (also, that URL is taunting me)
https://paste.c-net.org/BuckleAttracts - this is the session immediately afterwards, with the lag issue.

Relevant configuration files:
Both of these services launch after a 5 second timer.

I've tried everything here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen# … k_freezing
Aside from the boot parameters, which you can see in the logs, I've done some other things:
1. I updated my BIOS. I was on F15, and it turns out there's been a bunch of improvements since then specific to my CPU.
2. I set Power Supply Idle Control to Typical Current Idle as described here. This option wasn't there before the BIOS update.
3. Doing this made some error messages appear that didn't appear before: "GPU has fallen off the bus". A bit of searching suggested this was because my GPU wasn't getting enough power, suggesting the GPU undervolt was responsible. I set the script back to the default 450.

After doing this I played Palworld for about 5 hours without any issues. I went to bed satisfied that I'd fixed it, only for everything to stop working again. That was Friday night and I've been at this all weekend.

Thanks to the good old rubber duck method I've discovered that "GPU has fallen off the bus" was showing up when I launched Palworld for that journal I posted, just as I'm about to finish typing this and go to bed. Hopefully it will help me figure it out in the morning. If anyone can put a second pair of eyes on this I'd be grateful.

After what happens? My guess is that the machine reboots, then prints this error and becomes sluggish until power cycled?

Random idea: add usbcore.autosuspend=-1 boot parameter and see if it helps. There is a known HW/FW bug in AMD USB controllers which causes machines to freeze or reboot randomly.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

Journal of the previous boot ends w/ the nvidia GPU falling off  the bus.
The lane before it has an mt7xxx chip which is blamed as cause/trigger by eg. https://pcforum.amd.com/s/question/0D5P … se-further and those chips have a track record for causing bus errors (typically resulting in themselves not showing up)

You're mostly right - usually it's until I let it boot into a sluggish session, then power it off for a few minutes, and also boot into UEFI and then exit without saving for some reason.

Unfortunatley today, I had a crash happen a few minutes in (when it does crash a few minutes in, it's usually first thing in the morning after turning my computer off for the night, maybe that's a clue). That was 4 hours ago and after trying everything I usually do (including leaving my pc off for 30 minutes multiple times), I'm still lagging.

One thing I've noticed today is that my NVME temp is fluctuating wildly, and my GPU has show bursts of high VRAM usage with no apparent temperature changes.

I've tried this and my next boot went slightly smoother until I launched my browser. It might be a placebo though.

Yes. Could you tell me how to disable it? I'm struggling to even use Duckduckgo at the moment.

Sorry, I've turned it of now. Unfortunately the morning crash happened as soon as I read that sentence and reached to my keyboard to do that, so If I upload that log it was before I disabled it.

Yes. Could you tell me how to disable it?

BIOS/UEFI settings - anything in the OS won't help if it's actually poisoning the bus.
(The alternative would then involve a screwdriver)

After checking, I don't thing there's an option for that in my BIOS, and the screwdriver alternative isn't an option for me.

Today's the worst this issue's ever been. I only got two sessions that weren't sluggish, and both crashed after a short period of time. I've rolled back to a snapshot from a couple of months ago - I'm now using the linux 6.7.8-arch1-1 kernel and nvidia-dkms 535.113.01-2 driver, and things are stable again. I'm going to start by trying to upgrade my nvidia drivers without updating the kernel and see if it breaks anything.

If it's not the HW directly and we blame the wifi chip you can just "module_blacklist=mt7921e", https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … and_line_2

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

I've had some life distractions pulling me away from this, but in the process of upgrading the drivers and kernel separately, getting so fed up I decided to try installing another distro on  a different partition, and failing to add it to my bootloader and trying to figure out why, and then attempting and failing at switching to linux-lts as a solution, I remembered a bunch of stuff and figured out some other stuff.

When I update the drivers and not the kernel, my system slows down, and when I update the kernel without the drivers vulkan doesn't detect the GPU and I can only use my primary monitor at a low resolution.

A while back, around the time Baldurs Gate 3 was new, updating my Nvidia drivers past 535.113.01-2 was preventing my system from loading KDE, and it would hang at "Reached target Graphical Interface". Updating the kernel without the drivers also caused issues (I don't remember what, might have been the vulkan issue I mentioned). The solution I ended up settling on was to add the following packages to ignored and figure things out when I'd dealt with more pressing issues in my life:

lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia nvidia-dkms nvidia-settings nvidia-utils opencl-nvidia linux linux-firmware linux-firmware-marvell linux-firmware-whence linux-headers

Life got much worse instead of easing up until very recently, then Palworld came out and suddenly I couldn't play it with my current drivers. I forgot specifically what the problem with updating the drivers was by that point, so I unblocked those updates and switched to nvidia-open-dkms.

After figuring out it was a driver issue, and trying to figure out how to get things working on the linux-lts kernel, I started coming across information relating to nvidia drivers older than 560 and 545, which I don't think was there when I first ran into this issue. It's telling me that modeset=1 is required for drivers older than 560, and something was changed in 545?

I've unfortunately forgot most of the things I've tried because of a violent incident in my house and the aftermath (I'm safe, I'm just a witness). What I remember trying:
- https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … ff_the_bus
- nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 (https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=424779)

Is there a list of things you need to do when upgrading past 535? Because from what I can tell it's not as simple as running a pacman update and there's no summary that I can find. One section of the Arch Wiki even says to just roll back the drivers like I have.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/System … nsupported
You'd have to at least use the dkms modules, otherwise they will completely fail, nouveau is blacklisted and you end up running on the simpledrm software emulation.

Check

lspci -k -d ::03xx
glxinfo -B

for a quick status oversight.

It's telling me that modeset=1 is required for drivers older than 560, and something was changed in 545?

nvidia_drm.modeset=1 is always "required" but also the default since a while.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

"module_blacklist=mt7921e" doesn't work.

I've uninstalled linux-lts - aside from the fact that it's overcomplicating things, I realised I didn't have linux-lts-headers installed. With linux-lts-headers installed, linux-lts has the same issues as linux.

I also noticed that simpledrm wasn't being disabled, so I added module_blacklist=simpledrm initcall_blacklist=simpledrm_platform_driver_init. It stopped simpledrm from running, but that didn't fix anything.

This is what I got from those commands and the kernel modules loaded at the time:

rootfstype=btrfs loglevel=3 lsm=landlock,lockdown,yama,integrity,apparmor,bpf nvidia_drm.modeset=1 acpi_enforce_resources=lax amd_iommu=off module_blacklist=simpledrm initcall_blacklist=simpledrm_platform_driver_init

Looking at that last one, and having run grep -i "drm" on the journal, I noticed something interesting in these two lines:.

0x00000600 has the same number of zeros as 0000:06:00.1, so I assume they both refer to the same thing. Not sure why it says intel when I'm using NVIDIA graphics with an AMD CPU.

"module_blacklist=mt7921e" doesn't work … With linux-lts-headers installed, linux-lts has the same issues

So it's nvidia-open, not the mt7921e chip/module

added module_blacklist=simpledrm

Frt, that part won't do anything.

Does the GPU (still) respond to nvidia-smi ?

Why is this

Sep 29 23:09:43 MetalGear nvidia-smi[687]: Power limit for GPU 00000000:06:00.0 was set to 405.00 W from 450.00 W.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

The power limit is from the script at the start - the system got so slow and unusable I went back to an old snapshot and forgot to disable it again, my bad. I've now disabled that and the CPU power limit service.

The GPU still responds to nvidia-smi.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Thu Oct  1 03:34:16 2026
7.2.7-arch1-1 + NVIDIA GLX Module  615.71.09

GLX is fine in that log but it also is already running for ~15 minutes.
I assume it doesn't reflect a boot like in #10 where kwin crashed right away?

the system got so slow and unusable I went back to an old snapshot

So w/ the configuration of that journal X11/glx apparently didn't work at all and the Xorg log you posted seems like you upgraded the system again?
Please try to avoid operating on a moving target, focus on the fully updated system.

Do you currently experience
* the data fabric sync flood event hardware errors?
* a "slow and unusable" system?
* steam crashes of other nature (w/o spurious reboots etc)?

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

Yes, that was a boot where kwin crashed. Here is the journal: https://paste.c-net.org/EdwardDented

Unfortunately I'm not in a position in my life where I can go without a working system for a long period of time.

* I haven't had a random data fabric sync flood event hardware error for a while. These normally happened during boots where the system was running as normal, but those don't happen anymore.
* The system is now always slow and unusable when fully updated - I don't get boots where kwin doesn't crash anymore.
* Because the system is so slow, I haven't tried running Steam for a while.

So it seems kwin_x11 initially crashes/aborts w/ a "GL freeze" of sorts, then disables compositing and then runs uncomposited but w/o abort.

At that point

glxinfo -B
eglinfo -B
glxgears # this will run forever, but the behavior and output after 30s or so is interesting
for OUT in /sys/class/drm/card*; do echo $OUT; edid-decode $OUT/edid; echo "================="; done

You'll need https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/v4l-utils/ for the last one

Also try to run the session on a single monitor.

Virtual screen size determined to be 11520 x 2160

I'd rather expect boundaries at 16k than 8k but who knows.
Also this could be a VRR related problem

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

I ran the glxgears command you gave me again after rebooting, while my browser was loading. Check this out:

glxgears # this will run forever, but the behavior and output after 30s or so is interesting
for OUT in /sys/class/drm/card*; do echo $OUT; edid-decode $OUT/edid; echo "================="; done
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

Another glxgears from after my last post, when I noticed the framerate was improving:

glxgears # this will run forever, but the behavior and output after 30s or so is interesting
for OUT in /sys/class/drm/card*; do echo $OUT; edid-decode $OUT/edid; echo "================="; done
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
46 frames in 5.1 seconds = 9.025 FPS
42 frames in 5.1 seconds = 8.240 FPS
36 frames in 5.1 seconds = 7.059 FPS
568 frames in 5.0 seconds = 113.494 FPS
598 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.483 FPS
600 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.881 FPS
600 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.882 FPS
600 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.881 FPS
600 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.880 FPS
598 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.481 FPS
598 frames in 5.0 seconds = 119.481 FPS

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

Is that not what I'm doing when I disabled the other monitors in KDE Display and Configuration?

Does "xrandr -q" say they're disabled?
Also

xwininfo -root | grep geometry

reports 3840x2160 ?

    Display supports continuous frequencies
    Display supports continuous frequencies
    Display supports continuous frequencies

Can you disable that in the monitor OSDs?

Nope. I've now physically unplugged the displayport cables from the other two monitors. Is there a way to disable them through linux without unplugging them?

seth wrote:

Yes. It did so before and after unplugging the monitors.

I have no idea what that means or what it might be called in my monitor OSDs. Duckduckgo hasn't been helpful in figuring that out.

Here's everything you asked for again now that I've unplugged the other monitors, except glxgears, which will be in my next post after a reboot.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

glxgears # this will run forever, but the behavior and output after 30s or so is interesting
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.

After rebooting I launched glxgears as soon as I could. The framerate was slow for a while, but returned to a smooth rate before I was able to run it. After 5 minutes I launched Librewolf: at this point framerate drops, the glxgears window gets covered by my browser causing it to show a steady framerate, and drops again once I've positioned glxgears somewhere it won't get covered. It picks back up again when the window showing this thread is loaded up. After this I alt-tab to a browser window with the youtube video I was watching - the framerate plummets while I am changing windows and stays in the low tens after that, even before I've hit play. I fail to get a decent framerate on youtube until after I decide I've seen enough and close glxgears.

Also, I have no audio, which I have not attempted to troubleshoot as my windows-style taskbar disappears when I disable/unplug the other monitors. I'm going to treat this as outside the scope of this thread unless I'm told it's important.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

I have no idea what that means or what it might be called in my monitor OSDs. Duckduckgo hasn't been helpful in figuring that out.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Variable_refresh_rate - "GSYNC"

Yes. It did so before and after unplugging the monitors.

That would suggest they were disabled.

Assuming it'S not just VRR and just to be sure: this isn't a wayland session after all?

loginctl session-status

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

There's an option on my monitor OSD's called AMD Freesync Premium Pro, which I have now turned off for all monitors. It doesn't make "Display supports continuous frequencies" go away, is this enough? Here's the manual, all three monitors are the same model.

Pretty certain it's not wayland, but I will verify. I did switch to a wayland session a few days ago to see what would happen, and the framerate still sucked.

Re: [0x08000800]: data fabric sync flood event

After 5 minutes I launched Librewolf

What about concurrent glxgears windows? Do they behave the same?
What about vkcube? (vulkan-tools)
What about chromium or firefox?

What if you disable VRR/GSYNC in nvidia-settings? What if you configure the output(s) to run at 60Hz?
