Hi, I have a GNOME 51 question. I was reading the "release notes" and read this part about "legacy NVIDIA drivers":
Simplified graphics support: we removed support for legacy NVIDIA driver interfaces, as GNOME now uses the modern, standard graphics interfaces exclusively. This simplifies the code and benefits everyone using current drivers.
My kids have older NVIDIA GPU's, GTX 1080, and I install these drivers on their computers: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-580xx-dkms
It's already a hassle to update these outside the regular updates, but before I update their PC's I'd like to know if they're stuck on GNOME 50 due to the removal of these legacy driver interfaces?
Alternatively, are these drivers that I install from the AUR the best drivers performance wise? They still play modern games and the GTX 1080 is still very capable, it would be a shame if they became an impediment.

Leave it to gnome to write an entire paragraph with no meaningful information ![]()
I suspect it's talking about eglstreams, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wayland#Requirements

Hi seth, thanks for the link. It seems all drivers ≥495 are deemed "modern". This puts my mind at ease.
