Asus Zenbook 14 UX3480KA dummy output when using internal audio

This is an AMD machine. I've set up pipewire and alsa as per the arch wiki. linux-firmware, alsa-firmware, sof-firmware are all installed. the pipewire, pipewire-pulse, wireplumber user services are running.  The output of aplay -l is :

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

bluetooth audio works with no problem. It's just the internal speaker that I cannot get to work. chatgpt, claude, lumo are all just going in circles. Please advise me as to what output I should provide on top of what I posted above to aid fixing this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance for any help given!!
