weird wifi

Hi,

A couple of monts ago I had Arch running, with Wifi: the rt2570 driver from the serialmonkey site was working.
Till one day...A kernel upgrade, everything still worked except the wifi part.

I was very sad sad of course.

I did a test install with VectorLinux 5.8 -which has a SMP kernel enabled by default, at least that's what I  saw with uname - and used the rt2570 driver again: it worked!

In the impression that something in the kernel had changed which solved the issue, I downloaded Arch 0.8 and installed. Then tried the rt2570 again, but nothing. I see the device, can do an iwconfig but I cannot connect. The weird thing is: when setting the essid and dislaying it, the last character is not displayed. For instance i do an

iwconfig rausb0 essid MYTESTESSID

and  shown is ESSID="MYTESTESSI"

this does not happen in VectorLinux. Anyone got an idea what's happing?

And no, switching to VL is not an option wink

Re: weird wifi

Just add another letter to your ESSID. This seems to be an well-known issue. The tiacx-drivers also had this problem, but it was fixed with 2.6.20.
