Hi all I was just playing a little with User Mode Linux-
Sufficed to say something odd
After a few test installs of Arch (with a great bit of help from the wiki) I get this error:
[
Mounted devfs on /dev
FATAL: kernel too old
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
<6>SysRq : Show Regs
(then it dies)
At first I thought UML and or Arch needed reasonable similar kernel versions- so I chrooted to where I had placed the files and ran pacman -Sy kernel26
that worked fine but I still got the same message though.
Is this normal for ArchLinux inside of UML, or have I missed something someplace?
Ultimately it'd be for testing a web page (before uploading it) and possible for work purposes.
Or is their something that's similar but less finicy?

Arch dropped devfs support and switched to udev.
So, if UML does not work with udev, you will have to create your own kernel.

Hmm-ok-well that's something to consider- I guess I thought that since it was built from source throught Arch's build system that might have been acounted for-huh- well learned something new.
Hmmm Well thanks for the info about that

glibc 2.4 and higher on Archlinux require kernel 2.6.6 or higher. User-mode-linux in extra is 2.4.26 and doesn't support archlinux as guest OS.
