Useful webpages for linux newcomers

A "windows to linux" roadmap from IBM:
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/l … admap.html

A website full of "newbie help files"
http://www.tuxfiles.org/

The linux documentation project:
http://www.tldp.org/tldp-redirect.php?url=/

Linux forum:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/index.php

Arch linux is a great distribution - the best imho! I considered myself a newbie before arch - even though I had spent some time with Red hat and the like! I have learned more in a month with Arch, than a year with the others. Hope these help you become a confident linux user/addict !

I like the IBM link you provided.  I've been "around town" with Linux for some time, but there are some great documents on that link which I hadn't even been familiar with...

thanks.

Re: Useful webpages for linux newcomers

I must agree with you Paul as I have tried a few "linux" distros & by far I am learning more from this distro then any of the "others" I have tried.Hopefully soon i will be up & running.

Re: Useful webpages for linux newcomers

If you can read spanish (some articles are in english), this is maybe the best place/community to find good stuff like articles, tricks, and more:

http://bulma.net/

I've never found anything like that in english, at least as good.

Re: Useful webpages for linux newcomers

http://doc.mandrakelinux.com/MandrakeLi … Line.html/

I know, it's from Mandrake, but it's generic to Linux. Way back when I was a beginner, this guide got me going on the command line. I hope it's helpful to someone else out there.

UPDATE: changed their name and thus url.... http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/MandrivaLi … Line.html/

still as good for the beginner.

Re: Useful webpages for linux newcomers

I was fascinated into linux by Mandrake but it is Slackware that made me to "learn" linux.
And to be honest, it is the linux community which helped me like a father in my attempts to troubleshoot.
