Hi,
At the end of my session the login manager (kdm) doesn't restart any more. It starts only when I digit "reboot" or "shutdown -P"
Thanks

the code in inittab is ok.
When I choose from the kde menu "Restart X Server" or "Logout" from Xfce it goes back to the consolle (Login: )
When I restart my pc or I digit from the consolle "shutdown -P now" it's all ok

This is for sure a KDM problem. I made some tests with XDM as a login manager (inittab 5) to my KDE sessions for 2 users and it worked fine. Logouts worked ok and login manager showed as it should.
With KDM I've found problem with logging out when only one user is working on the computer. I made test with "switching users/starting new sessions" so two users could work without logging out. And when one of them wanted to end session, he normally logged out or turned the comupter off from the K menu. Screen correctly got back to the first session of the first user.
And of course when first user wanted to log out - KDM crashed....
So where is the problem? hmm...

If you are for sure it is a KDM problem I would suggest reviewing the official KDE bug listings for similar reports and possible fixes that may be available. This is always a good place to start when researching these kind of desktop issues.

I'll search KDE's bugtraq. But it is strange., I have 2 workstations (desktop and laptop) with Arch Linux current and KDE and only on laptop i have problem with logging out.. I think that DE is configured almost the same on both machines. I don't know what i should look for on laptop.

OK, I've found solution for my T23 laptop!
It is not a KDM problem. But the Xorg's SAVAGE driver! I changed "savage" to "vesa" in my xorg.conf and everything is working just FINE! ![]()
so, so, so..... what is wrong with the savage driver???

Same problem here. I have a Fujitsu Siemens K7600 Notebook with Savage graphics. And also I get the server crash on logout. Any news on this?
Did anyone try recompiling the savage X-server?

Now it works again, after the last kernel update; maybe it was a bug.
