Well I've been a linux user for around 15 months now, with the last 4 on Slackware.
I've decided to try Arch and I'm pretty impressed with it so far.
However I'm having a problem startx/KDE. I installed kdemod and then edited .xinitrc to startx. But I get the following errors.
/root/.xinitrc: line 10: exec: startkde: not found
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fots/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
I installed fluxbox and edited .xinitrc and it started up fine. So I'm not sure why kde is not.
Thanks for any help.

Have you tried entering "source ~/.bashrc" then doing "startx" while "startkde" is in your .xinitrc file?

That fixed it.
Thank you very much!

I agree with hacosta. Install sudo

I do, too. You should not need a GUI to set your system up, anyway.
