Currently I have /home on /dev/sda1 which is a ext3-partition filling the entire disk and I got a new disk which I want to replicate all that data do. What would be the best way of doing it?
Install the new HDD, create a new partition on it and mount it somewhere and then do something like:
cp -a /home/ /mnt/newdisk
Or is there a better way?

I'd use rsync -av for that. But yes, you're right in general about this.

Oh, I never thought of that since I never use rsync, just installed it and checked the man page, looks like it does pretty much the same thing. I'll try it out, thanks!
