Okies guys, I have another slight hiccup in my system.
When I used to use 'exec xfce4session' or whatever it was in my xinitrc the logout would work fine (I've added the users I want in the sudo conf, so it's not that one), but now I've switched to a more modular approach as provided by the wiki. It helps me understand it more and also helps me to feel in control since I know what's being launched. One catch, as soon as I did, the logout button became a 'Quit Xfce Panel' button. Which takes me back to my login. I think I understand why this is happening. Because my xinitrc is :
xfce-mcs-manager
xfwm4 --daemon
xfdesktop &
exec xfce4-panel
So by this I think the shutdown function sees that the exec is at the panel, so it quits that and ends the session? Correct me if I 'm wrong, I'd like the regular 'logout / shutdown / reboot' dialog again, while keeping my modular Xfce startup config.
Thanks guys.

I think need xfce4-session runing to run the log out dialog.
but you could run /opt/xfce4/libexec/xfsm-shutdown-helper
and see if that works.
