i am running archlinux with kdm desktop. i put in an 8800gtx video card and the performance is terrible. my old 6800 gt was better.she's fine when just working or surfing the net. but when i try to run games she's choppy, stutters and sometimes locksup the system. have the latest drivers and everything is current. updated xorg.conf and everything else i can think of. i tried running 2 cards in sli and it doesn't seem to recognize the 2nd card so i'm just trying to get it straight with 1 card for now. if i boot to windows she's beautiful, it's just linux. anybody else having this problem? anybody got any advice?

8800 is completely new chip. You have to wait a while until nvidia writes better drivers for it. Btw, they released new version yesterday.

got the new driver installed this morning. it seems a lot smoother and she's doesn't seem to be locking up now. still doesn't give me sli though. have to play around and see if it's just a config problem or what. thanks

The only OS with working drivers for 8800 is WinXP. Numerous Vista fans abuse nVidia btw

ok, thanks. i have it running on xp in sli. just can't do it in linux right now. guess i'll just have to wait for the drivers to catch up. not super important but would like to make it work right. thank you

ok, i ran a bug report and i get an error on the 2nd card. i get ALLOCATION FAILED out of vmalloc space-use vmalloc=<size> to increase size. i belive the default is 128 but i'm not sure. how do i do this? and should i just double it or bump it up incrementally? thank you
