replace kdesktop with xfdesktop

Hi,

I'm just curious is it possible to use xfdesktop in place of kdesktop.  I have found a KDE theme I like, and am trying to switch mostly to KDE.  However, I like *boxes, and XFCE4.  I was just curious if it would be possible to start xfdesktop on all of the virtual desktops easily.  Because I have attempted to try it; it sets the background on all the desktops, however only the menu pops up on the one where I started it.

The setup I want is minimal like *boxes/Xfce4, but with KDE.  I wish they made like QTbox or KDEbox.  I just want kde + xfdesktop (w/ custom menu) + conky.  No kde panel nor it's menu.

I know it should be possible, but I haven't worked with KDE much so a little advice would be helpful.

thanks,

A method is right no I told you I hated the menu system.  I've also tried the custom menu thing, but it doesn't work like I want it (submenus, few other things).  Thanks for your reply though.

What about sticking with xfce4 but switching the window manager instead? You should be able to even switch them during running sessions w/o cli (i.e. gui's for example beryl lets you choose the wm.) Then just load the kde apps you want.

I start xfce4, kicker, and gnome-panel and noticed then most programs load quicker if they are kde or gnome. Not much just some.

Yeah that should work.  Just load kwin instead of xfwm.  Thanks for your reply, junglepeanut.

Re: replace kdesktop with xfdesktop

Well I tried to replace xfwm with kwin, but I couldn't get it to work properly.  It results from the same fate as replacing kdesktop with xfdesktop.  You switch virtual desktops, and the menu disappears except when replacing xfwm with kwin, if you switch virtual desktops you can't move back.   I'll just stick with XFCE4 than.  Unless someone has another idea.
