Xorg problems

I just installed arch 0.8 on my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 5160.  I also installed xorg and kdebase, but I'm running into problems when I try to startx.  I've determined that the problem is with the driver.  My graphics card is a Trident and the only driver I've gotten to work with it so far is VGA.  The problem with this is simply that the VGA driver pretty much sucks.  Other drivers I've tried are vesa and trident but when I startx using these, my screen goes black and the computer locks up.  I've included my two most recent xorg.conf files below.  The first is generated using the command X -configure and the other using hwd.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

Try commenting out the glx line.  That was causing me some trouble because my card doesn't support OpenGL.

this may help check the xorg section
if you know your "VertRefresh / HorizSync" or you may want to build xorg.conf yourself by running
"xorgconfig" as root instead of using the one from archie or if you have hwd run hwd -x
or hwd -s & hwd -h to see what it finds in your hardware

OK.  So I've made some change to the xorg generated by X -configure and I've gotten x and kdm to start.  First I added the VertRefresh and HorizSync to the monitor section and then under the screen section I added modes for each display and specified a default depth.  I'm still having a couple of problems though.  The first is that I loose visual (system doesn't crash, I can ctr-alt-backspace to restart kdm) when I change the resolution to anything other than the default 1280x1024 @ 60 hrtz.  The other is that my screen size is off or something, because I can only see the upper left hand corner of the screen on my monitor.  The rest of it, including the menu bar is off the edge.  Any suggestions?  Noriko, do you still want the log files?  Thanks guys!
