Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

Current version is 1.5.0.6, and I don't get that bug... I think it's fixed in this version.

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

Try moving ~/.mozilla to ~/.mozilla.bak and see if firefox works then. If yes, it's probably an extension/theme problem.

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

I just installed some ttf fonts in /usr/share/fonts/TTF

i ran
mkfontscale
mkfontdir
fc-cache

and restarted xfce and now i'm getting this same problem.  i installed using current about 2 days ago.  this just happened today (after i installed the fonts).

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

it's interesting.  i can open up files from my desktop with firefox and browse local html files, but firefox will crash when it tries to go to a remote site.

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

Ok, after I removed some the Arial & Times New Roman font from /usr/share/fonts/TTF/ it worked great.  I then installed the fonts using the pacman ms fonts package.  Sorry about the confusion.

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

There's no particular reason that should help with the crashing, since Swiftfox is just a CPU-optimized version of Firefox. Please don't post useless advice...

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

I have been having the same problem for the past one week, even with a newly install system which has nothing but essential programs for a backup system. This problem is with firefox, openoffice, nedit, pacman, etc., and is on the same hard drive as the original system I'm still trying to get up and working.
  The firefox strace is here

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

ditto,
It isn't at all predictable. I'm using firefox 2.0.0.1-2 I had recently tried beryl and it was around this time that I started having trouble with firefox. I thought that beryl was the culprit so I uninstalled(not the only reason) but it is still crashing. I hope I can finish this post. I'm not sure if any other info is needed but here is uname -a :

Linux voodoo 2.6.19-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 11 20:08:17 CET 2007 i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

I'm running XFCE 4.4.0-1 w/Composite disabled.

Why is it looking for these apps: kget, gwget, etc.? Maybe you are using a broken extension. Try disabling them. You could also install one of these apps to see what it'll do.

Re: Firefox 1.5.0.5 crashes all the time

Snowman : Thanks for your advice.

FYI :

First I disabled all my extensions, I do not have many ...

The problem persisted with

/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0.0.2/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 16975 Segmentation fault      "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

The only error message sad

Then I tried /opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0/firefox-bin

And got this error message :

user@Arch:~$/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0/firefox-bin
/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libmozjs.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Re-installed mozilla-common -> still no joy, same error message

My work arround was to downgrade firefox & re-install mozilla-common.

Firefox is working again , all extensions re-enabled

Perhaps the problem is with firefox-2.0.0.2-1 ?

At any rate, I hope that helps someone who stumbles into this thread with a simmilar problem smile

If is not broken ... tweak it
