Heya Archers!
i setup an FTP server on a spare box and figured i would serve up some arch linux goodness!. currently i have 0.7.2 and the 0.8b2 iso/torrent (i686 only) i can add the Arch64 iso's if there is a demand for them.
Regular FTP / Explicit SSL Port 2121
Implicit SSL Port 990
User: anon
Pass: anonymous
Based in Madison,Wi US
if any of you have a spare minute or two, i would appreciate a few of you connecting as a sort of test. and give me some feedback here. i havent yet had anyone but myself and an FTP test (http://www.g6ftpserver.com/en/ftptest) conn to this server yet, its new!. 8)
just an FYI. this is running Gene6 FTP Server on Windows XP Pro SP2 with NOD32 Anti Virus. i am running ClarkConnect as my router/gateway.
Thanks
EDIT: i am adding the Arch64 iso's as i post this.

Well, I see it's wide open. That's trusting of you. I think I'll upload some copyrighted content. What? You already have some up? Rock, rap and metal? Iron Maiden, Weezer, Slayer, and more?
Probably not the best of ideas. Granted, FTP isn't a major focus of anti-piracy efforts, and the selection may be small enough to fly under the radar. I still wouldn't bet on it.
Also, open FTP servers are easy drop sites for those who trade illegal pictures of naked people (the normal term is censored) (you know what I mean). You don't want the FBI knocking on your door because come sickos decided to use your server as a hub.
The best way to run an FTP server is to have most content read-only, and make your upload folder write-only. Otherwise, hijinks are likely to ensue.
EDIT: Well, that's just my FTP client decieving me.
It said I could write when I really couldn't. Sorry.

ok. i noticed a few connections to the server. gimme some feedback e.g. speeds, any probs negotiating dir's etc.
if you are a regular user of the forums here and would like a regular user account on the server, shoot me a email via the forums. and ill review it. you should be a long standing, in good standing member of these forums to be considered.
WARNING: this is NOT a Pirated Software server. and i dont/wont allow any blatant illegal activity.

Well, speeds seem good. With no other traffic on my end, I got sustained download speed of ~60-72 KBps. Are you hosting this on residential DSL? Your upload speed is similar to mine.

yea AT&T Yahoo! DSL 6.0 Mbps/768 Kbps. cool, those speeds are decent.

To clarify: scarney used a common Internet slang term for pirated software.

Just an FYI folks.. we don't have the censor filter on for actual censorship.
We are using it to try and block spam. If a word is in the censor filter..you cannot sign up with a username with one of those words in it.
We just added some common spam bot words to the filter...
I now return you to your regularly scheduled forum topic...

cactus, if it's purpose is to block singups (isn't it?), why is it censoring the actual forum content?

That is just the way the censor plugin works.
We are using part of the functionality (blocking usernames with spam keywords) but it also does the same thing on forum text.
from the punbb help:
Enter a word that you want to censor and the replacement text for this word. Wildcards are accepted (i.e. *some* would match somewhere and lonesome). Censor words also affect usernames. New users will not be able to register with usernames containing any censored words
The list was culled from spam accounts and junk spammy posts.
Again, the censoring in postings is only an artifact of our attempt to block spam accounts. Most of the censored words are the names of perscription medicines anyway. lol

i like to think of it as a nice slap in the face, if ya know what i mean. ;) i am also running a clarkconnect box, which runs an ftp server aswell. i found g6ftp, which i think is excellent. and had a windows box doing nothing but crunching distributed computing, so wth, why not use it for backup/storage/ftp also!. 8) i know i dont have a fat pipe but it should be good enough to grab the ftp and base iso's at a reasonable speed. atleast in a pinch!.

There's even funnier case: http://linuxsuxx.org/ is served on linux!
