Hi all,
I'm trying to get a webcam working on my linux system. I have what I believe is the proper software (qc-usb, xawtv, etc.) The device file 'video0', however, does not appear to be in the "/dev" directory. Could someone point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

Have you looked at:

Yea, I've read through what I could find on webcams and Arch specifically.

when you plug the webcam, what does dmesg say?
Offline
dmesg says:
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

this means that the kernel does not find any drivers that match your webcam.
If you know what drivers you need, you can try loading them manually:
modprobe [driver name]
If this does not help, give the brand/model of the webcam, and what lsusb shows about it.
