are there any proceeding errors?
i.e *apic* , if there is an apic error .. u can add the noapic option to ur kernel line .. i grub, at the boot menu press `e`

This probably won't help but I was getting these errors followed by kernel panic on boot up for awhile intermittently and could not figure it out. Then it rained...temperature all around went down and everything was fine. I put a fan next to the computer and everything was better, never happened again. (Intel Mac)

Re: kernel panic can't mount root fs on dev(8.2)

Do you have fixed device references in your fstab?  The device order can change sometimes - e.g. your root device becomes sdb1 instead of sda1, depending on the order in which they're recognised when you boot up.  I found this would happen seemingly arbitrarily to me, and I'd get a kernel panic because it was looking for the root device in the wrong place.  You could change your fstab entries to refer to /dev/by-label/[name of arch partition] instead (or you could put the UUID in, alternatively) if that might be the cause.

well, it seems to be fixed now.was running the os on the nvidia port and the storage on the sil image port. put the storage on nvidia and she's been running a couple of days now with no kernel panic. plus she boots faster. guess it didn't like the sil image controller.
