Automatic detection of HW configuration before install

Does Archlinux do some automatic detection of HW configuration before install?

Can be problem that I have installed the Arch 0.8 Voodoo on the different computer than is system now running? On my old laptop I have no CD-ROM, so I installed the system to the laptop's disc via USB from my PC.

But my PC is much more faster than my laptop..is it problem?

Thanky
