Gdm and infinity loop

Dear all,

excuse me for my question.
When i launch gdm, it starts in a infinity loop and nothing occurs.

Can you help me?

Thank you very much.
Luca.

Re: Gdm and infinity loop

How are you starting GDM? Are you just typing gdm on the console? It needs to be started by rc.conf (add gdm to your daemons line) or by changing your inittab to 5 (edit your /etc/inittab).

Re: Gdm and infinity loop

...in any case it doesn't work.

I try to add gdm to rc.conf as daemons, but when it starts also the infinity loop starts.

Re: Gdm and infinity loop

it sounds like your XFree86 config isn't set up properly.  You should take gdm out of the DAEMONS line and then reboot into console mode. You can then run startx to see what errors you might get with X. (check /var/log/XFree86.0.log for lines that start with EE).

Post your errors and your X config.

Re: Gdm and infinity loop

same here ... the "command" gdm and putting it into rc.conf leads to the same result... white/black screen with a nice watch  big_smile

but startx leads to gnome 2.6 "working" .. telling me that gdm isnt running

XF86Config made a correct config and the wmaker starts without any trouble...

maybe its my unknowing of anything ... but what the heck is up with gdm?  :?
