Icon formats

Hello.

I have a big bunch of icons I'd like to use but when I try browse to them to add them to an application they don't show. I assume I've forgot to add something to the installation when I added gnome.

The icons is in png format. Do anyone know which package I might have missed?

pacman said 'libpng-1.2.16-1: is up to date.'

Thanks for the tip though, I go dig around some more.

EDIT: It seems I can add png icons from my icon collection to the desktop icons, but the ones I have on the bar still don't accept those icons.. I also checked so I had librsvg installed and that I had.

Re: Icon formats

I tried to copy one of the icons into the default directory to see if the file browser was picky about that but I still couldn't add it. I just created a desktop icon, and then I could use my own icons...

I checked files and a file in pixmaps directory was
- PNG image data, 64 x 56, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced
while my own icon was
- PNG image data, 79 x 77, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced

Both files had equal file rights, that is readable. I'm stumped now.. I try something else, like automount cd's until I figure this one out(And I need sleep to..)

Re: Icon formats

You're not by any chance being caught out by the fact that when you choose browse in the 'Browse icons' dialogue, you have to select a directory?  When I first tried this, and the browse dialogue showed no files in the desired directory, I took that to mean there were no files of the correct format within that directory, whereas they come up in the 'Browse icons' dialogue after you've chosen a directory.
Anyway, it's an unlikely one, but can catch you out sometimes.

Duh! As you said.. I selected directory and pressed ok, THEN the icons showed up in the little 'show icons' window.. What fooled me first times was that the window showed default icon (/usr/share/pixmaps/mplayer.xpm as example) in the file selector indicating I should select a file and not an directory.

There should be a note saying 'choose only directory here' smile

Thanks alot.
