Bah! Win security the best?! I think not!

Not really in regards to Arch but Linux in general, I'm sure alot of you are slashdotters and have seen the following article  http://www.internetnews.com/security/ar … hp/3667201   It talks about Symantecs 11th web security report, stating that Windows is the best OS in terms of internet security?

Some of the factors they 'accidently' leave out are that IE is a part of windows, therefore the security issues related to it should be taken into account (49 flaws) and the fact that they leave out how many Windows flaws were high, medium and low severity, BUT they explain it for all other OS's. This is just plain biased journalism.

I checked the report myself, while no other OS had more than 2 high severe flaws, Windows had, wait for it, 12! I'm sorry but I don't care how fast you fix your flaws, the fact that your OS has 6-12 times more highly severe flaws in it than anyone else's means the general structure of the OS is terrible.

end rant; I'll let others continue wink

i dont suppose it has something to do with the fact that symantec provides services for windows only does it?

I thought that but Symantec weren't the ones posting the article, their actual report contained all the correct information; the journalist writing about the Symantec report is to blame. I know there's alot of rubbish on the net but the fact that it was posted to slashdot means it's going to get way more views than it deserves.

Windows - 39, 12 severe, average 21 day fix
Mac - 49, 1 severe, average 66 day fix
Red Hat - 208, 2 severe, average 13 day fix

Relying on simply patches is a very poor method of security judgement.

If it's plain biased journalism, it's probably not worth posting about. There's countless of these stupid X is more secure than Y articles made every day, and more often then not, they're flawed.
