Using the pcspkr module

I'd like to be able to use the PC speaker as a very basic sound card. I'm fairly sure there's a way to do it, but after loading pcspkr, I still don't see a new sound device. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

Re: Using the pcspkr module

I read article about pc-speaker history few years ago. Windows 2.0 (or 1.0, i don't remember) had driver to use pcspeaker as soundcard, but it was VERY buggy and MS dropped it

Re: Using the pcspkr module

I don't know wether there is a device for the speaker. The speaker is for sure _not_ handled as a sound card. It should appear in the file /proc/bus/input/devices (yes, it is an input device - this is for historically reasons).

However, you can use the command "beep", e.g. in shell scripts. This one is quite flexible and gives you control over the length and frequency of your beep (and much more). This should be ideal for a prank ;-)
