i can't turn on dma on my cdrom/cdrw device..This is the output.
[root@iNsAnE DeViL]# hdparm -d 1 /dev/hdb
/dev/hdb:

Longshot: if you can try changing the slave/master jumper, my old DVD-burner (NEC ND-2500A) wouldn't work with DMA unless it was master.

I'm with two hard disks.They're connected like this:
IDE1
-hdd1
-cdrom
IDE2
-hdd2
-cdrw
Both on ide1 and ide2 the devices are slaves but.. i can't use dma neither with cdrom nor cdrw?
