hi there
i have installed arch and everything went fine.
when i choose arch linux in the grub menu it first loads, gets a first FAIL on "mounting root read-only".
then:
Mounting local Filesystems BUSY
warning: cant open /etc/mtab: No such file or directory
mount: cant find / in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
cant create lock file ....
cant create lock file......
Configuring System Clock BUSY
.....
Removing Leftover Files BUSY
......... read only file system
........
.....
and then if i wait for about 4 minutes a login comes up:
Arch Linux 0.6 (widget) ((none)) (vc/1)
(none) login:
there i cant login as root (login incorrect)
what have i done ?

May you post your menu.lst file (/boot/grub/menu.lst)?

booting the windows partition works

For my system I had to change the /dev/discs/disc0/partx to /dev/hdax. See if that works for you.

nope, that didnt help - the same things happend
can you have a look at my /etc/fstab maybe this is corrupt

try add to your fstab:
/dev/discs/disc0/part1 / $fstype defaults 0 1
where $fstype is your file system type (ext2fs, ext3fs, xfs, reiserfs or jfs).
You sould add your swap partition too.
