I'm owning an HP Compaq nx6325, everything works exelent, exept when i close my notebook, it wont hibernate as instructed with gnome-power-manager, and when i pull out the power suppply gnome-power-manager, doesnt register that I'm running on battery, whats wrong?
My user is member of these groups: disk, hal, video, audio, storage, power, users, optical, and acpid is running.

from last versions of hal daemon acpid is activated automatically from it on startup.

I've just tested this with conky which gave the same result, acpid is running.

What does /var/log/acpid say?
