I was always wondering what is that black "shadow" behind the mighty blue arch? It certenly doesn't look like it is cast by the arch, so what is it?
The only idea that it came to me is that it is a ponytail. :? But then the arch seems to me like a cherokee.
(no ofense meant here to any cherokee arch linux user. i was just recently playing prey

Erm, I suppose it's just because it's more simple to add a shadow that doesn't really go with the actual imaginary lighting of a non exsistant object than it is to cast a shadow that actually matches.

It might not be a shadow at all. It could be there so that the logo looks like a stylised A.

you know, I've been running arch for a few years, and I asked myself now this very same question.
I think just the arch alone would be much cleaner.

I think that's probably the correct explanation, and it looks good that way to me. 8)

Funny ... I always thought it was an A ![]()

To me it looks like this:
arch is a bleeding edge distro:
- The black shape is the edge.
- The blue shape is an arch getting into the edge.

you mean the edge of the blade doing the cutting? a sickel perhaps?
actually it sorta looks like a boomerang.

I never thought is looked like a shadow, but just a swoosh of motion kind of like on the NASA logo or something...just a design decision, and I rather like it. ![]()

Yeah, it gives a different taste to the arch, and without it, it wouldn't look "cleaner" but only more boring.

I think the logo could be better. I would be ready to submit various versions.
