Can't find "Prompt on logout" in Gnome

I have installed Arch + gnome + gnome-extra, and I wanted to configure the "Prompt on logout" feature within Sessions.

So I went to Sessions -> Session options and... the only items there are "automatically save changes to session" and the "Save the current session" button. Where did all the other options go? hmm

Can anybody help me?

What do you mean by that? That Gnome asks you for a password before shutting down? I can't remember this option at all and I'm using Gnome since 2.8 on Debian. On Arch I use kdemod, so I can't say anything about Arch's Gnome.

Re: Can't find "Prompt on logout" in Gnome

Not, it's not about passwords. When you leave Gnome you are usually asked for a confirmation (something like "Are you sure you want to leave" or something). There is (there *should* be) an option under Sessions->Session options to remove that confirmation dialogue.

According the Gnome documentation (http://www.gnome.org/learn/users-guide/ … ion-TBL-11), there should be the following options under "Session options":
Show splash screen on login
Prompt on logout
Automatically save changes to session

But on my computer I can only find the last one. Do you have the same problem? I admit this is not a major disaster, but it is not nice when things don't work as they should smile

Re: Can't find "Prompt on logout" in Gnome

you should read the documentation for 2.18 not for 2.14 smile

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Can't find "Prompt on logout" in Gnome

big_smile Oops, good point. Anyway, the documentation is the same regarding this point (http://www.gnome.org/learn/users-guide/ … ion-TBL-11).

The funny thing is that I had installed a previous version a few days ago, and running Gnome 2.16 these (now missing) options were there. I would say this is some kind of bug related to version 2.18...

OK, got you now. Open gconf-editor, go to apps > gnome-session > options. Remove tick at logout_prompt.

That is my point: that option is not there. Also "Show splash screen on login" is not there. The only option present in that dialogue is "Automatically save changes to session"...

Re: Can't find "Prompt on logout" in Gnome

The gconf-editor doesn't display options in this style, so -- no disrespect -- excuse the blunt question:

Are you sure you started the program gconf-editor and not the System tab of your Gnome menu?

No disrespect at all, because you were right (shame on me). Indeed, under gconf-editor I can find this options. The question remains why aren't they there under the system tab, as they should...

Thanks for your help!

it's because gnome developers take away from the ui the options that "the normal desktop users" are not suposed to understand or care about, I think that's nice, they often over do it though.

Yes, a bit annoying that they take it so seriously, but anyway I'm in love with Gnome ;-)

Re: Can't find "Prompt on logout" in Gnome

They removed it because the options have no use anymore. The logout dialog is in gnome-panel nowadays, as that's the application that quits. What I've read in the "fixed" bugreports is that gnome-panel doesn't listen to those options, so they were removed from the dialogs.
